Wrinkles and creases on the face are usually the result of age, but genetic factors and sun exposure also play a large role.  Our office offers the newest in Skin Fillers, which can dramatically soften and minimize visible fine lines and wrinkles on the face. 

Dr. Mowbray uses a number of proven skin fillers.  Their trade names, include the collagen-based products known as CosmoDerm, and CosmoPlast, which are very effective for fine lines and smaller wrinkles and scars.

Patients with deeper creases or depressions on the facial skin can now benefit from the newer skin fillers composed of hyaluronic acid.  Commercial products that we offer, include Restylane, Captique, and Hylaform-Plus.  These skin fillers have a larger molecular size than collagen and have the potential to improvedeeper wrinkles and creases more effectively and for longer periods of time.  Unlike the early collagen products, known as Zyderm and Zyplast, the newer collagen and hyaluronic acid compounds do not require pretreatment skin testing for allergy.

Many patients are interested in creating a more full appearance to their lips, otherwise known as Lip Augmentation.  Dr. Mowbray likes to use a combination of CosmoPlast along the margin of the lips to create a more distinct margin and this can also help fill in and soften fine lipstick lines.  He then uses Skin Fillers to make the lips look more full and appealing.  Note: Our lips naturally become thinner with age, and lip augmentation is a safe and effective way to make the lips look more natural and youthful. 

Many patients benefit from a combination of BOTOX with a Skin Filler.  BOTOX works in a different way to improve the youthfulness of the skin, in that it temporarily removes the pulling action of the underlying muscle on the overlying dermis of the skin, thereby allowing the skin to relax and the visible wrinkle or crease to gradually flatten.  BOTOX works exceptionally well for horizontal creases on the forehead and to remove the frown lines visible between the brows.  BOTOX works well to lessen the depth and visibility of crow’s feet and small doses of BOTOX are now also being used along the margin of the lips to lessen the depth of vertical lipstick lines.  BOTOX is not effective for the deeper creases of the face which is best managed by using the skin fillers described above.
